Lake Galena & Marina

Lake Galena & Marina

Nestled among the rolling hills of The Galena Territory is a gem, a calming location that beckons individuals and families, young and old, who desire to be enveloped by peace and natural beauty.

When Lake Galena was completed in 1975 it was carefully planned. The seven-mile shoreline was designated Greenspace – land owned collectively by members of The Galena Territory Association – that cannot be purchased or developed. The only docks allowed on the lake are at the Marina and at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa.

One of The Galena Territory’s most cherished amenities is Lake Galena, a scenic 225-acre man-made lake perfect for anglers and boaters who enjoy observing nature on leisurely cruises. It boasts some of the best fishing in the area, with an abundance of smallmouth and largemouth bass, walleye, bluegill, channel catfish, perch, and tiger muskie.

The lake is spring-fed and has a spillway at one end creating a beautiful 40-foot waterfall called Thunder Bay Falls.

Greenspace & Trails

Greenspace & Trails

View from Stony Point Lookout
Over 25 miles of trails winding through 1,700 acres of undeveloped, preserved woodlands and prairies.

The Galena Territory and Jo Daviess County are found in a unique geographical region known as the Driftless Area, referring to the ridges and valleys glaciers of the Pleistocene Epoch avoided. With 24 miles of trails winding through Greenspace, hikers can spend a day enjoying the serenity and solitude that only nature can provide.

The trails closest to Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa are paved and suitable for jogging, power walking and other activities that require sure footing. Some of these trails also have lookout platforms for beautiful panoramas of Lake Galena and the countryside.

The majority of the trails are natural and not paved. They are rugged and sometimes wet and slippery depending on prevailing weather conditions. However, that just adds to their charm!

Greenspace +

Hiking and horseback riding are two of the most popular pastimes here and can be enjoyed year-round. Although the trails are not groomed for cross-country skiing, Association members and their guests can break their own trails and discover the beauty and winter solitude of The Galena Territory.

The Galena Territory is designated as a National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat. This accomplishment recognizes the commitment property owners make to the native flora and fauna.
