The Galena Territory Association
Who are we? We thought you’d never ask.
The Galena Territory Association (GTA) is the common interest association that manages 1,900 acres of semiprivate recreational amenities in The Galena Territory. The GTA also provides property management and maintenance services to each of the eight satellite associations and offers programs and services to help owners maintain their property.
Once you buy property in The Territory, you are automatically a member of the GTA. Members are required to maintain their property per applicable state statutes and the Association’s governing documents.
Who manages the Association?
Established as a not-for-profit corporation, the day-to-day operations of the GTA are administered by a full-time, on-site professional management team with oversight and policy/decision-making provided by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from and by members.
Is Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa part of the GTA?
No. Eagle Ridge is a separate, public entity that resides within The Territory. It is not governed by the GTA, nor does it abide by GTA rules, regulations and guidelines.
Think of it this way:
- The Galena Territory is the complete 6,800-acre development.
- The GTA is the property owners association that manages the common properties in The Territory.

What is The Galena Territory?
The Galena Territory is a semiprivate, residential, recreational and resort community located in the northwest corner of Illinois, near the historic city of Galena. Designed to maximize the rugged terrain of the surrounding area, The Territory’s 6,800 acres boast spectacular vistas, valleys, prairies and woodlands that harbor rare plant and bird species found nowhere else in Illinois.
Property owners collectively own 1,900 acres of common recreational amenities in addition to their own properties. These include 24 miles of walking/hiking trails, Lake Galena for boating and outstanding fishing, a Marina Complex, Shenandoah Riding Center, and a Recreation Complex featuring pools, a fitness center and a gym.
Who owns The Galena Territory?
- Individual property owners own 61%. More than 4,000 acres are owned by individuals who have purchased property in The Territory.
- The Association owns 28%. Property owners collectively own 1,900 acres of semi-private common properties through membership in the Association.
- Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa owns 11%. Eagle Ridge’s 775 acres are open to the public.
